A Personal Note from W.R.

It has been a very trying week for me at work. For a few days my job was in jeopardy. I was suspended over a couple of allegations against me: one warranted, one unwarranted. After a long meeting I was able to keep my job, thanks in part to strong support from a union representative. I've been an employee at this company for almost 22 years and will stay for now...

To help unwind I've been listening to a lot of soft rock lately, so my "song of the week" is the soft rock classic Arthur's Theme (The Best That You Can Do) by Christopher Cross.

By the way, I've actually never seen the movie Arthur. Is it worth checking out? If anyone has any thoughts please let me know.

Arthur's Theme was a collaboration between Cross, Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager. "The Boy from Oz" Peter Allen, wrote the hook line "When you get caught between the moon and New York City." It won the Oscar in 1982 for Best Original Song.

Christopher Cross only had one hit album and few singles before fading from mainstream popularity. Nonetheless, that work was strong enough to cement his legacy.

If you're interested, here's some links to a few more of my favorite Christopher Cross songs:

  2. Yes, Arthur is worth a look, especially for John Geilgud as Arthur's butler.

Glad to hear that your union rep was a strong advocate for you and helped you keep your job. I was a shop steward myself back in the 80's and 90's, and the hardest part of the job for me was discipline and grievance handling. Compared to that, recruiting new members (we were an open shop at the time), serving on bargaining teams and even going out on strike was a piece of cake. Stay strong, and fix whatever needs to be fixed that warranted the one allegation. Solidarity forever.

Thanks for the recommendation on Arthur, too. I'll check it out at some point. Take care.
