Eric bonds with Tyrone and the other group therapy members, he works out with them while his dad Neville looks on. Eric lets his guard down and gets hit causing his dad to snap and storm off.
After the workout, Eric showers but someone is watching him.
The same guy who tried to drown Eric earlier comes back to finish the job.
Eric goes limp but he's only playing possum.
Eric gets the guy to confess who ordered the hit. He says it was a prisoner called Jago.
Eric attacks Jago with a homemade blade. Jago says he doesn't have the authority to order a hit. Eric realizes it was Spencer, whom he refers to as "the old cunt with the hair."
Eric goes to attack Spencer in his cell. Neville happens to be playing chess with Spencer and holds Eric back from attacking him.
Eric and Spencer have a one on one talk. Spencer tries to bullshit Eric by saying he likes him and considers him a future leader but Eric sees through him.
Later at a group therapy session, a big shouting match breaks out causing the Governor and Deputy Governor to come down. Eric only played a minor role in the incident but he's kicked out of the group. Oliver pleads to the Governor that he's making progress but she won't listen.
Later while Oliver's in the restroom, Deputy Governor Haynes comes to gloat. He says that Eric is a lost cause and he's doing the public a favor by keeping him behind bars. Haynes says he will warehouse Eric for the rest of his life.
Oliver attacks Haynes in a fit of rage and then surrenders his keys and badge.
With Oliver gone, there's no one protect Eric and harness his rage. The shit really hits the fan in the final act. Eric's conflicts with his father Neville, Spencer and Haynes all come to a head. Can Eric overcome all of them alone or will Neville step up and become the father Eric needs?
This is a very gritty and well acted drama. The performances from the three main actors make this movie well worth checking out. The ending is bittersweet but satisfying.
