Sting had taken a beating for most of this match but he got a burst of
energy and made a comeback, knocking Vader down with a flip
kick. Sting followed up with a DDT but was too weak to go for a pin.
Vader got up first and tried to go to the top rope but Sting caught him. Sting knocked Vader off and after a flurry of kicks carried Vader to the middle of the ring and delivered a Samoan Drop. Sting could only manage a weak cover and Vader kicked out.
Sting followed with a bridging German Suplex. The referee had been knocked down and was slow to count. Vader kicked out again.
Sting went for a couple Stinger splashes. The first one was successful. With the second splash Sting overshot Vader and hit his head on the steel ring support.
Sting was knocked senseless. He tried a couple wild swings then fell flat on his face.
Harley Race yelled for a Power Bomb, which Vader executed.
Vader folded up Sting with a tight pin and it was over. Your winner and new WCW Champion, Big Van Vader.
Both Sting and Vader were at the top of their game here, both physically and psychologically. Vader was positioned as a monster heel and Sting as the never-say-die babyface and they played their roles to perfection.
