Troll 2 is supposed to be a horror movie but the execution is so poor it comes across as a comedy. It's biggest claim of fame is at one time it was the lowest rated movie on the IMDB website. Troll 2 has since become a cult favorite.
Here's a basic summary of Troll 2. The Waits family are exchanging houses with a family from the country town of Nilbog. A group of four friends follow the Waits to Nilbog as the leader of the group is chasing Holly Waits. The townspeople of Nilbog are actually Goblins (there are no trolls in this movie) who eat people when they've been converted to vegetables. They feed strangers poisoned food and that allows the process to happen.
Jason Steadman plays Drew. Drew's jogging to Nilbog to get some food for himself and his 3 friends. The town Sheriff Gene Freak sees Drew as he's driving by and offers him a lift, which he accepts.
On the way to town the Sheriff offers Drew a donut, which Drew accepts and eats right away.
When Drew arrives at the store the shopkeeper glares at him with devious eyes, clearly something is up.
Drew asks for coffee and eggs, but the shop has neither. The shopkeeper offers Drew a bottle of (unrefridgerated) milk for free and Drew takes it.
When Drew walks out of the shop a local man stops him and tells him to meet his friend Arnold (who's been missing) at a "house that looks like a church" a mile away. Drew accepts the man's word and goes on his way.
On the way to the house Drew is feeling sick. Drew stops to drink some milk, but it's rancid so he throws it away.
Drew manages to make it to the house, but he's so weak he collapses against a bedpost and goes to sleep.
His friend Arnold is at the house, but he's already partially turned into a plant. Arnold tries to scream for help but his screams are muted because of some growth in his mouth. Drew eventually hears Arnold and is shocked by what he sees.
Drew pulls the growth from Arnold's mouth and Arnold tells him to drag him out of the house, pot and all, before the "crazy lady" returns.
Drew doesn't get far before he's caught by the Goblin Queen.
With a single backhand the Queen knocks Drew onto the bed and he passes out.
After this scene Drew is never seen again so we assume he dies. This is one of many plot holes in this supposed horror movie.
This is a fun movie to watch if you like making fun of bad acting, writing and costumes. That said, there is some charm to this movie. The actors really are trying their best and the music, sets and camera work are actually decent. This isn't the worst movie ever, not in my view anyway. Here's the trailer for Troll 2.
