Rebuttal to Myself
Are people disappointed that I'm leaning towards CM Punk's side? Try to convince me otherwise! If anyone is to blame for all of AEW's dramas it's Tony Khan for not asserting his leadership or implementing a stronger management structure.
I put a lot of time and effort into my coverage of CM Punk vs The Elite, so if would appreciate some sort of feedback from anyone.
One thing is clear - I will be more careful about which non-underground wrestling topics to cover in the future. It's no fun "shouting into the void!"
Hey, buddy, it’s Alex Miller. It won’t let me comment as me for some reason, so I’m trying anonymously. Since you asked for different perspectives, I’ll share mine. I would side with Adam Page and Adam Page only. In this instance, I’m not a fan of Punk or the Bucks and think they’re both wrong. I base this on a few things …
ReplyDelete- Page did nothing wrong. His reputation is being a chill dude and I buy that. Punk being mad about something Page said in a promo or on a Podcast is childish and represents his sense of entitlement. He wants young guys to bow down to him and throws a tantrum when they don’t. The whole “business for himself” or “risking a big PPV” makes no sense to me when the big selling point of AEW promos is that they’re unscripted, what Page said was so obscure that few fans knew what he was referencing, and guys like MJF and Moxley are saying way worse true stuff about Punk in promos.
- Punk has a reputation for being toxic. I don’t buy his whole “if you have a problem talk to me” stuff. Bucks had a problem and he locked himself in his locker room. He’s made this a public issue, no one else.
- I don’t like the Bucks or their EVP status. I think they look out for themselves and use it to screw over people. Like I believe that they unfairly handed themselves the Trios belt because they need to be the first winners to hold the belt. In this most recent run, FTR is the most over and #1 contender forever but never got a title shot. Stuff like that.
If I ran AEW, I’d demote the Bucks and remove the EVP titles, fire Punk (he’s won the belt twice and gotten injured both times, so I think he’s done and can only create drama), and keep Page as a solid mid-card babyface facing guys like Ricky Starks. Moxley would be my champ with MJF up next. I’d put Wardlow (who I think is a superstar) in a real program, not just squashes, and give more love to guys like Miro and Andrade.
Cheers!
Thank you Alex, for commenting.
DeleteI don't think Page did "nothing" wrong but Punk's response was way over the top. If Punk does come back, a rematch with Page should be on the table.
I can see the hypocrisy in Punk's statement "if you have a problem, come talk to me." As EVP's the Bucks set a bad example by picking a fight with Punk. I don't think any active wrestlers should have executive status. It's a conflict of interest.
I agree the Bucks were over-pushed. Hopefully they'll stay away long enough for us to miss them.
Does Tony Khan really want to push guys like FTR, Ricky Starks, Miro and Wardlow? Anytime they have had momentum they've been cooled off. It wouldn't surprise me to see guys like Wardlow, Starks and MJF in the WWE eventually.
I personally hope Punk does come back, even if it's a limited schedule. He's a genuine star in a company that needs star power.
