Scream king Mark Patton enlivens A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2 with his performance as Jesse Walsh.
The Walsh family move into the same house Freddy Kruger terrorized in the first movie. Jesse's bedroom happens to be the same as Nancy, the heroine in the original Elm Street. The movie opens with Jesse seeing Freddy in a nightmare.
Freddy appears in another dream and tells Jesse he wants to use his body as a vessel to kill again.
Jesse goes out at night in a dream like state and finds his high school gym teacher, Snyder at an S & M bar. Inexplicably Snyder takes Jesse to school at night and makes him run laps. Jesse takes a shower and zones out, allowing Freddy to appear again. Snyder is tied with jump ropes to the shower pipes and whipped in the ass with towels before Freddy kills him.
When Jesse regains his senses he freaks out. Jesse screams a LOT in this movie.
Jesse finds comfort in his relationship with Lisa. When they make out Freddy threatens to come out again and Jesse hastily leaves.
Jesse sneaks into his friend Grady's house and tells Grady to watch him as he sleeps. Of course, Grady goes to sleep himself and Freddy appears again.
Grady tries to open the door but it's jammed and Freddy claims another victim.
Freddy goes after Lisa but is unable to kill her as Jesse's love for her is too strong. Jesse manages to free his body from Freddy's control and all is well, for a few minutes anyway.
I wouldn't say this movie is essential viewing but Mark Patton's performance is very strong. For my taste this is one of the better "Nightmare" sequels. Here's a clip from the scene following Grady's death.
